Skincare was just the beginning…

The Kind of Home We’re Building

We want to say this first, plainly and honestly:
we don’t have it all figured out.

We’re not perfect. We’re not trying to be. And we’re definitely not here to tell anyone how to live, what to buy, or how “natural” they should be. We’re learning as we go — slowly, imperfectly, and with a lot of grace for ourselves.

And just to get this out of the way — we hate the word crunchy.
It’s never felt right. It feels boxy and performative and like something you’re either “in” or “out” of. Life doesn’t work like that. People don’t work like that.

What we are doing is paying attention.

We’re educating ourselves. Asking better questions. Making changes where we can, when we can. Not overnight. Not all at once. Just one step at a time.

The kind of home we’re building isn’t about aesthetics or labels. It’s about alignment.

It’s about raising children who know where food comes from, maybe alongside chickens scratching in the yard. It’s about choosing grass-fed meats when possible, drinking fresh milk, and taking only what we need instead of more than we can use. It’s about working with the earth, not against it.

We’re drawn to rhythms that feel older and steadier. Living closer to the land. Letting seasons guide us. Trusting that nature already has systems in place, and we just forgot how to listen.

Right now, we don’t have a lot of space, but we try to make do with what we have. We’re learning how to grow food and maintain it all.

Our own lettuce and herbs from the garden.

That doesn’t mean we’ve sworn off modern life or pretend convenience doesn’t exist. It just means we’re learning to slow down enough to choose intentionally. To notice when something feels noisy or excessive. To ask whether a choice supports our health, our home, and the future we’re hoping to build.

Emerald City Tallow grew from this same place.

Skincare was just the beginning — a small, daily ritual that felt like a good place to start. Something we use every day. Something we wanted to trust completely. From there, the bigger picture began to take shape.

We’re not here to convince anyone of anything. We’re simply sharing the path we’re walking — inviting others to walk alongside us if it resonates.

If you’re curious…
If you’re learning…
If you’re craving a slower, more grounded way of living…

You’re welcome here.

This is the kind of home we’re building.
Rooted. Intentional. Always learning.

With love,
Emily
