Why We Chose Tallow…
There was a time when caring for the body didn’t require research, labels, or second-guessing.
People used what was close. What was familiar. What worked.
For us, tallow wasn’t something we stumbled upon casually or discovered through a trend. It came after a season of asking harder questions. When Justin and I started talking about building a family, we became more aware of the quiet ways everyday choices add up. Especially the ones we make without thinking.
We started paying closer attention to hormones. To ingredients. To the products we were putting on our skin every single day.
Our skin is our largest organ. What we apply to it doesn’t just sit on the surface; it’s absorbed, processed, and carried through the body. And when you’re hoping to conceive, hoping to nurture life, you begin to see those daily decisions differently. We didn’t want the things we chose, even unknowingly, to interfere with our ability to have children or support a healthy body.
So we researched. Thoroughly. Slowly. We read labels, studies, and histories. We looked at what people used long before modern skincare existed — not out of nostalgia, but out of curiosity and care. That’s when tallow kept coming up. Not as a miracle. Not as a cure-all. But as something steady. Time-tested. Deeply compatible with human skin.
We learned that tallow is rich in fatty acids and vitamins that closely mirror what our skin is already made of. It supports the skin’s natural barrier instead of disrupting it. It doesn’t ask the body to adapt or adjust. It simply works with it.
And that mattered to us.
Especially as people thinking about parenthood. Especially as people who wanted products we could use daily, confidently, and without hesitation; on ourselves, and eventually, on our children.
Somewhere along the way, we were taught that more was better. More ingredients. More steps. More promises. But the deeper we looked, the clearer it became: our skin doesn’t need novelty. It needs nourishment. Choosing tallow felt like choosing trust over fear. Simplicity over excess. Wisdom over noise.
That doesn’t mean modern life is wrong, or that there’s only one right way. It just means that for us, this choice felt aligned. It felt honest. It felt like a small but meaningful step toward protecting what mattered most to us.
Emerald City Tallow exists because we believe caring for yourself shouldn’t feel overwhelming. It should feel grounding. Familiar. Like returning to something you already knew, deep down.
If you’re here because you’re curious, because you’re trying to reduce toxins, because you’re thinking about your health now or in the future, we’re glad you found your way here.
This is simply us, sharing what we trust.
Like a note passed between friends.
With Gratitude,
Emily
